CODES OF PRACTICE / CONDUCT for VOLUNTEER COACHES & HELPERS
Meadowbank Gymnastics Club (MGC) is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of all its gymnasts and members. The club believes that it is important that volunteer coaches and Volunteer helpers should, at all times, respect and understand the safety and welfare of others. As Volunteers do not hold a contract with MGC, the signing of this form confirms that you have read, understood and agree with the terms of this Code of Conduct.
The essence of good and acceptable ethical conduct and practice is listed below. All volunteers must:
Consider the wellbeing and safety of participants before the development of performance at all times
Have an up to date disclosure and attend appropriate Child Protection Courses
Develop an appropriate working relationship with participants and parents, based on mutual trust and respect
Make sure all activities are appropriate to the age, ability and experience of gymnasts
Promote the positive aspects of the sport
Never punish or demean a child for losing or making mistakes
Display consistently high standards of behaviour, language and appearance
At no times when in care of gymnasts/children is it acceptable to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs
Follow all guidelines laid down by the SGA (Scottish Gymnastics Assoc) and the club
Hold appropriate valid qualifications and insurance cover
Do not exert excessive pressure on gymnasts to obtain personal benefit or reward
Encourage participants to value their performances and not just results
Encourage and guide participants to accept responsibility for their own performance and behaviour
Mobile phones and other electronic devices not used for the purpose of coaching should be switched off in the gym (unless is to be used as the emergency contact number for parents / guardians but it should not be used for personal use)
Jewellery must not be worn at either training or competitions.
No contact will be made with gymnasts using social network sites including but not exclusive to, Facebook, Bebo, Myspace etc,
Volunteer coaches will not have any gymnast as “friends” on social networking sites.
Volunteer coaches, Level 1 and above only can claim any relevant expenses that they may incur whilst volunteering as a coach with MGC.
Eg; Petrol, food whilst away ,all day at competitions
